Born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, Ozzy rose to fame in the 1970s as the frontman of Black Sabbath, a band that helped pioneer heavy metal. His journey from a troubled youth—once jailed for stealing clothes—to global stardom was marked by both musical brilliance and jaw-dropping behavior.
Among the most infamous incidents was the 1982 concert in Des Moines, Iowa, where Osbourne bit the head off a live bat thrown on stage by a fan, mistaking it for a rubber prop.
