Porn racket case: Court denies relief to Gehana Vasisth, calls charges serious

A sessions court on Tuesday refused interim protection to actor Gehana Vasisth in an adult films case filed by the property cell of the Mumbai police last week. Hearing her anticipatory bail application, the court said there was more than one FIR against Vasisth, adding that the allegations that she had compelled women to enact obscene acts for adult films were serious in nature. The court said Vasisth’s case was not a fit one to grant interim relief. The case will now be heard on August 6. Vasisth was arrested in a similar case in February and granted bail in June.

Kundra’s offence detrimental to health of society: Court

Meanwhile, in the detailed order rejecting bail to businessman Raj Kundra arrested in the adult films case, the metropolitan magistrate’s court has said that the alleged offence is “detrimental to the health of our society”. “In such circumstances, societal interest in the prosecution of a crime which has a wider social dimension cannot be overlooked,” the court said, adding that investigation is in progress and releasing him would hamper the probe.

The actress, who is currently out on bail in the porn scandal that also involved Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra, applied for a pre-arrest anticipatory bail, which was heard at the Dindoshi court on Tuesday afternoon. Speaking about her decision to approach the court, lawyer Sunil Kumar said in a statement, “We have moved the court for a pre-arrest anticipatory bail as there was a chance that she would have got arrested by the police”.

In an interview with ETimes Vasisth raised her concerns about being arrested. She said, “I will not be going to the police as you know the last time the police gave out wrong details about how my arrest took place. I am waiting for a copy of my charge sheet to tell the world about the misinformation given to the media in my case.’’

This report comes just a day after the Bombay High Court reserved its order on petitions filed by Raj Kundra and his associate Ryan Thorpe challenging their arrest.

Meanwhile, Gehana spoke out in Raj’s defence and questioned his arrest saying, “His arrest is completely illegal because the police have kept him in custody for 7-8 days and in the meanwhile, they have taken his mobile phone, laptop, CDs and bank account details. If they want to make enquiries, they have enough proof already. Where is the need for them to keep him in custody? The charge sheet has been filed for months now”.
