Priyanka Chopra ends partnership with New York restaurant Sona

Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas has decided to end her partnership with New York City restaurant Sona, which she co-founded and opened in 2021. The move marks a shift in its focus within the hospitality industry

Although the acclaimed restaurant will continue to operate, Chopra and Jonas will no longer be involved as creative partners. Manish K Goyal, co-founder of Sona and a close associate of the actor, expressed gratitude for her past contributions.

“Although she will no longer move forward as a creative partner, she remains in the Sona family and we are excited for our respective new chapters to come,” Goyal told PEOPLE.

Sona, named after the Hindi word for gold, opened during the pandemic, attracting attention for its unique blend of elegant decor inspired by India’s Art Deco era and its diverse culinary offerings. Despite the challenging conditions, the restaurant quickly gained popularity, with diners appreciating both its stylish ambiance and its array of dishes representing different regions of the Indian subcontinent.

The eatery’s menu includes selections like paneer tikka and Goan fish curry. During the restaurant’s launch, Goyal emphasized Chopra Jonas’ role as a driving force, praising her for contributing to critical elements of Sonar’s identity, such as its design, menu curation and even music choices, the publication reported.

Chopra Jonas’ spokesperson confirmed to the publication that her association with the restaurant is a proud achievement in her career, reflecting her commitment to promoting Indian culture through diverse storytelling. Yet, her preoccupation with food and hospitality may extend beyond this point.

“Moving away from Sona allows her to broaden these ambitions more globally and she is excited about the possibilities that await,” the spokesperson added.
