Priyanka Chopra Shares Cryptic Social Media Posts Amid ‘Heads of State’ Controversy

Bollywood and global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas has sparked widespread speculation following a series of cryptic Instagram stories posted in the wake of controversy surrounding her recent film, Heads of State. The posts come amid backlash directed at Chopra’s manager, Anjula Acharia, whose comments about the actress’s contribution to the film’s success have ignited debate across entertainment circles.

The controversy stems from Acharia’s assertion that Chopra generated significantly more buzz for Heads of State than her male co-stars, John Cena and Idris Elba. In an interview cited by Variety, Acharia stated, “I don’t think she would normally be credited for [the film’s success] because she’s not the lead. She’s not a ‘head of state.’ But in this case, the data doesn’t lie.” She further claimed that AI-driven analytics tools showed Chopra accounted for 50–60% of the online conversation surrounding the film, compared to 20–25% for Cena and Elba.

In response to the growing discourse, Chopra took to Instagram with two enigmatic posts. The first read, “Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward,” followed by another that said, “For all those asking, yes I still don’t read my books backwards.” While the actress did not directly address the controversy, fans and commentators have interpreted the messages as a subtle response to the criticism and media scrutiny.

Heads of State, directed by Ilya Naishuller, premiered globally on Prime Video on July 2. The action-comedy features Chopra as Noel Bisset, a senior MI6 agent, alongside Cena, Elba, Jack Quaid, and Carla Gugino. In a recent interview, Chopra expressed pride in portraying a physically demanding role written for a woman in a male-dominated ensemble. “It was very important to the male cohort of this movie. I was honoured to play a part which was written for a woman to succeed and thrive. It does not happen often,” she said.

Despite the online backlash, Chopra has continued with her professional commitments. She is currently filming SSMB29, an ambitious adventure drama directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu. The film, tentatively titled Globetrotter, is being shot in Nairobi and is expected to be one of India’s most expensive productions to date.

As the debate around Heads of State continues, Chopra’s cryptic posts have only intensified public interest, leaving fans and industry observers to speculate on her stance and the broader implications for celebrity credit and representation in ensemble films.
