Production Begins on The Devil Wears Prada 2 With Original Cast Reuniting

Nearly two decades after the original film became a cultural touchstone, production has officially commenced on The Devil Wears Prada 2, reuniting Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci. The sequel, greenlit by Disney’s 20th Century Studios, is slated for a global theatrical release on May 1, 2026.

Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna—both returning from the original 2006 film—the sequel revisits the high-stakes world of fashion publishing. Meryl Streep reprises her role as Miranda Priestly, the formidable editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, while Emily Blunt returns as Emily Charlton, now a powerful executive at a luxury fashion conglomerate.

The storyline reportedly centers on Miranda’s struggle to maintain editorial independence amid the decline of traditional print media. She finds herself professionally at odds with Charlton, whose company controls the advertising revenue Miranda desperately needs. Kenneth Branagh joins the cast as Miranda’s elusive husband, a character previously only referenced in the original film.

Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, is also expected to return, though her role in the sequel remains under wraps. The original film concluded with Andy leaving Runway to pursue a career in journalism, and speculation suggests she may now be a key player in the evolving media landscape.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser featuring a pair of red stilettos with devilish pitchfork heels—an homage to the original film’s iconic poster—and audio clips of memorable lines from the first installment.

The Devil Wears Prada (2006), based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, grossed over $326 million worldwide and earned Streep an Academy Award nomination. The sequel aims to capture the same blend of wit, ambition, and fashion-forward storytelling that made its predecessor a modern classic.
