Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming romantic drama Aap Jaisa Koi, starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh, and directed by Vivek Soni. The film explores the idea of “barabari wala pyaar”—love built on equality and mutual respect—through the story of two very different individuals navigating tradition, identity, and emotional vulnerability.
Set between Jamshedpur and Kolkata, the story follows Shrirenu Tripathi (Madhavan), a 42-year-old Sanskrit teacher from a conservative background, and Madhu Bose (Shaikh), a bold and independent French teacher. Their worlds collide when they meet for an arranged marriage, but sparks fly in unexpected ways. While Shrirenu is shaped by habit and restraint, Madhu challenges societal norms and refuses to be confined by expectations.
The trailer hints at a tender, introspective romance that questions patriarchy, emotional repression, and the roles we play in relationships. Madhavan describes the film as “quiet, awkward, and deeply human,” while Fatima calls her role “therapeutic,” celebrating strength through softness and femininity.
Aap Jaisa Koi is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment and will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 11. The supporting cast includes Ayesha Raza, Manish Chaudhari, and Namit Das, adding depth to this nuanced take on modern love.
