Rahul Dev said real reason behind brother Mukul Dev’s death, slams Bollywood insiders who called him ‘unfit’: ‘They didn’t even come to his funeral’

Rahul Dev revealed the reason behind brother Mukul Dev’s death in May. He said the actor suffered from loneliness after his parents’ death and how their divorce also took a toll on him.

Mukul Dev’s death at the age of 54 left his family and fans in deep shock. His brother, actor Rahul Dev, recently opened up about dealing with the loss and revealed that Mukul was not well for a while. According to him, Mukul suffered from loneliness after his parents’ death. He also revealed how Mukul’s divorce took a toll on him. He revealed that Mukul rejected acting projects and limited himself to writing.

‘Mukul had stopped eating 4-5 days before his death’

In a conversation with ETimes, Rahul revealed that Mukul was hospitalised eight days before his death, the main reason being his poor eating habits. He said that Mukul had completely stopped eating four to five days before his death. “He used to feel lonely and had lost interest in life. He had no passion to live life,” Rahul said. The actor turned down several work offers despite Rahul encouraging him to get back to acting.

‘Mukul moved to Delhi to take care of his ailing father’

Rahul shared that Mukul had moved to Delhi in 2019 to take care of his ailing father. However, his father passed away the same year and his mother passed away in 2023. He said that Mukul never fully recovered from his father’s death. Since Mukul was a divorcee and his daughter did not live with him, her absence also affected him greatly and he “became isolated”. “He was not taking care of himself and being alone did not help,” Rahul said. Rahul also lashed out at those who described Mukul as depressed and unwell. He questioned why the same people did not keep in touch or visit him during his last days. “He felt lonely. Who really kept in touch with him between 2019 and 2024? Did anyone visit him when he was in the hospital or attend his prayer meetings? He had two upcoming films to release and he recently shot for Son of Sardaar in England. No one will cast you if you are not healthy.” Rahul further admitted that whenever he scolded Mukul for neglecting his health, Mukul started avoiding him. He recalled his youth and said that Mukul was a heartthrob, but he himself was more reserved. “And the irony is that such a naturally sociable person turned out to be so lonely. He never remarried or tried again,” he added. Rahul also revealed that he lost his wife, his father and now his brother in the month of May. He also spoke about how he has to deal with the grief now that all the rituals have been completed. “He was not a poor guy,” said Rahul, adding that he remembers his brother for having a lively and charming personality.
