Ranbir Kapoor shared rare information about director Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan during his recent appearance at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah.
The makers of the much-awaited Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi starrer Ramayan had kept the details of the film under wraps until now. However, Ranbir, who recently attended the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah as a notable speaker, shared a glimpse of the Nitesh Tiwari-directed film while addressing the gathering. The actor felt fortunate and “humbled” to have the opportunity to play Lord Ram on the big screen. He also praised the film’s producer Namit Malhotra for his passion and dedication towards the project.
A video from the festival has gone viral, in which Ranbir Kapoor is seen discussing the film. In the clip, the Barfi actor said, “I am currently working on Ramayan, which is the most amazing story. My childhood friend Namit Malhotra, who is making this book with so much passion, has roped in the best of all the actors, all the creative people, the crew. It is directed by Nitesh Tiwari.”
Ranbir also revealed that he has finished shooting for the first part of the two-part franchise. He shared, “It has two parts. I have finished shooting for part 1 and will soon be shooting for part 2. Just to be a part of that story, I am so grateful to play the role of Ram. It is a dream for me. It is a film that has everything. It teaches what Indian culture is all about – family dynamics and husband-wife dynamics.”
In November, producer Namit Malhotra had shared his vision for the project in multiple posts on his x (formerly Twitter) handle. “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring to the big screen this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years,” he wrote. In another post, he wrote, “And today, I am thrilled to see it beautifully taking shape as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth and our culture – our “Ramayana” to people across the world.” He further added, “Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing our greatest epic alive with pride and reverence… Part 1 on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 on Diwali 2027. On behalf of our entire Ramayan family.”
The film has a stellar cast. Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi will play Ram and Sita respectively, while Ravi Dubey recently confirmed his role as Lakshmana. Meanwhile, Kannada superstar Yash will play the role of Raavan. The first part of the film is scheduled to release in 2026, while the second part will release in 2027.
