Robert De Niro’s daughter, Airyn De Niro, has publicly come out as a trans woman, sharing her journey of self-discovery and resilience in an interview with Them magazine. Airyn, 29, expressed gratitude to her parents for keeping her out of the limelight during her childhood, allowing her to grow up with a sense of normalcy despite her father’s fame. She emphasized the importance of finding her own path, rejecting the label of “nepo baby” often associated with children of celebrities.
In the interview, Airyn reflected on her struggles with body image and societal expectations, revealing that she began hormone therapy in November 2024. She credited Black women, including her mother Toukie Smith, as sources of inspiration and strength during her transition. Airyn shared her desire to expand trans visibility and inspire others who face similar challenges, particularly those who are Black, queer, and outside conventional beauty standards.
Airyn also discussed her aspirations in acting and modeling, as well as her studies to become a mental health counselor. She expressed hope to be seen for who she truly is, stating, “There’s a difference between being visible and being seen.” Her candid revelations mark a significant step in her journey, as she continues to navigate her identity and pursue her dreams. Robert De Niro and Toukie Smith welcomed Airyn and her twin brother Julian in 1995, and have supported her throughout her journey.
