Shahid Kapoor’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj biopic shelved

There have been at least a few film adaptations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life and bravery. However, to be able to interpret such a tremendous aura and communicate it to the public, the right type of zeal and commitment are needed. With Shahid Kapoor in the starring role, the Amit Rai-directed biopic on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj might have been the movie that checked all the boxes. However, the movie has been permanently shelved if recent media reports are to be believed.

Although it is not unheard of in the industry for a film’s destiny to be cut short in this way, Amit, for one, made sure that there was no room for rumours to take over the story. The director pointedly lambasted the “cruel system” in an interview with Mid-Day for making the process of making this epic movie unpleasant for him. The overlapping “casting, production, stars, and management” processes that eventually detract from the movie itself were highlighted by Amit. Amit was particularly impacted by how quickly everyone pointed out the shortcomings.

It is important to note that Amit has overcome other significant obstacles in his pursuit of his career goals. Oh My God 2, the highly controversial 2023 release, was also directed by Amit. The film, which starred Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar in the key roles, was heavily criticised for depicting the resemblance of masturbating in a juvenile setting. Even though the movie was finished correctly and eventually released in theatres, Amit battled valiantly against the censoring restrictions that applied to the finished version.
