Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh — Bollywood actress Disha Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly’s Civil Lines area was targeted in a shooting incident early Friday morning, prompting a high-level police investigation and raising concerns over celebrity security in the region. The attack, which occurred around 3:30 am, involved two unidentified bike-borne assailants who fired multiple rounds outside the residence. No injuries were reported.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya confirmed that the incident is being treated as a serious threat. Five special teams, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), have been deployed to investigate the matter. Forensic units recovered spent cartridges from the scene, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify the perpetrators.
Shortly after the attack, a social media post allegedly authored by gang members Virendra Charan and Mahendra Saran, affiliated with the Goldy Brar group, claimed responsibility. The post accused Disha Patani and her elder sister Khushboo Patani of insulting revered Hindu spiritual leaders—Premanand Ji Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Ji Maharaj—and issued threats of further violence. The message described the shooting as “just a trailer” and warned of dire consequences should any further disrespect be shown toward their religion or saints.
Khushboo Patani, a retired Indian Army major and certified wellness coach, had previously posted a video criticizing Aniruddhacharya for alleged misogynistic remarks made during a religious discourse. Her comments were widely circulated and misattributed to Premanand Ji Maharaj, leading to backlash and threats online. In August, Khushboo issued a clarification stating her remarks were directed solely at Aniruddhacharya and not Premanand Ji.
The Patani family, including Disha’s parents Jagdish Singh Patani (a retired circle officer), Padma Patani, brother Suryansh, and sister Khushboo, were present at the residence during the incident. An FIR has been lodged at Kotwali police station, and security has been intensified around the property.
Authorities have transferred the case to the crime branch and issued alerts regarding the Goldy Brar network, which is reportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The investigation remains ongoing, with police urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and inflammatory content online.
The incident has sparked widespread concern across the entertainment industry, with calls for enhanced protection for public figures and stricter action against organized criminal threats.
