The nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards have been announced, with several popular television series and actors missing out on recognition in major categories. Among the biggest surprises was the absence of Stranger Things and Euphoria from the Outstanding Drama Series category.
Despite missing out on the prestigious drama series nomination, both shows received seven nominations each. Zendaya earned another nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her acclaimed performance in Euphoria, keeping the series in contention across other categories.
In the comedy categories, Jeremy Allen White, a two-time Emmy winner, failed to secure a nomination for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series despite the continued success of The Bear. The series remains a strong contender, with co-star Ayo Edebiri receiving another acting nomination.
The popular series Only Murders in the Building also saw mixed results. Martin Short earned another Lead Actor nomination, while co-stars Steve Martin and Selena Gomez were not nominated in the lead comedy acting categories.
Meanwhile, the horror series Widow’s Bay emerged as one of the biggest surprises of the nominations, earning 19 nominations despite premiering only in late April.
The 78th Emmy Awards ceremony will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay and will take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The event will celebrate outstanding achievements in television across various genres and categories.
