Sushmita Sen is the first Indian who won the Miss Universe pageant in 1994. Till date, the diva is one of the best-known winners of the pageant, along with Lara Dutta who won the crown, six years later in 2000.
Recently, Harnaaz Sandhu, who was crowned Miss Universe 2021, handed over the baton to Miss R’Bonney Gabriel of USA. During her last formal walk as the reigning Miss Universe, the 22-year-old chose to walk the stage wearing a custom-made gown with images of Sushmita and Lara.
Soon after, Sushmita Sen reacted to the gown on her IG Live saying, “Yes, I saw her gown. I think it’s a nice tribute. I look forward to giving him a hug in person to thank him for it. Because he carried his country’s legacy with him on such important walks. To see Lara and me there with him was like ‘yes’. So Harnaz, if you are watching, my dear, the tightest hug awaits you in person. You have made us proud and continue to make us proud. Thanks for that.”
Harnaaz also said that it was a tribute for both the women of India for making the country proud sice their win as Miss Universe.
Along with Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta too commented on the same and said, “May you always shine bright like the diamond you are!! Stay your humble, amazing, strong self sista!!! Here’s looking at you kid!!!!! Good luck for all that’s yet to come”
