Taapsee Pannu manifest Kanika Dhillon approached another actor for Haseen Dilruba: ‘I wasn’t ideal for it’

Actress Taapsee Pannu’s intriguing role as a disgruntled wife whose love story turns out to have a catastrophic outcome in Haseen Dilruba was much the same. The actor has revealed that before joining the 2021 Netflix thriller, screenwriter Kanika Dhillon had approached another actor to replace the role of Rani Saxena from Haseen Dilruba.
“I had heard from Kanika that she had such a story,” Taapsee Pannu told Indianexpress.com when she first heard about the idea, which eventually became Haseen Dilruba, co-starring Vikrant Massey, and directed by Vinil Matthew.
She said, “I told Kanika that I was eager to hear it, but I had gone to shoot a film and when I returned, I came to know that she had already narrated the film to another actor and They were working on it soon.” , Even though Taapsee Pannu did not reveal any name, there have been reports for a long time that actress Kriti Sanon was approached for this film.
Taapsee said that only after a few months she again got a call from Kanika, who asked her to come to the office to narrate the script “without asking me any more questions”. The actor said, “When he finished the statement, I just laughed. I told him, ‘It was my destiny (I was going to do this film), I had already told you.’ It was an immediate yes from me.
The actor said that being cast for a film like Haseen Dilruba was new for him as well as the producers as no one could see him in the field of a romantic thriller. Taapsee said that this film is something that no one had even imagined of doing.

“Except for the gray part of it, I’m not the ideal artist for it. Because anything that’s gray isn’t right on paper, I’m the one to go on that. Apart from this, nothing in the film was suiting my casting. Maybe that’s why I was excited.
“Because then I will approach it in a way that would not be expected or would be the most ideal way to do it. When I do it, it will be different from the person who is ideally suited for this kind of role. I thought it would be a great opportunity to test myself and learn a lot about what I could potentially do.
Taapsee Pannu is now preparing for the film’s sequel, Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba, to be released on August 9. The actor credited Haseen Dilruba for the “noise” generated to make way for the sequel.
