Tisca Chopra Uses Indonesian Player’s Photo To Congratulate Mirabai Chanu, Gets Trolled

Congratulatory messages are pouring in for Mirabai Chanu who ended India’s 21-year wait for a weightlifting medal at the Olympics by clinching a silver medal in the 49kg category to open the country’s account in Tokyo on Saturday. The 26-year-old lifted a total of 202kg (87kg+115kg) to better Karnam Malleswari’s bronze in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Several celebrities including AR Rahman, Mahesh Babu, Kunal Kemmu and Riteish Deshmukh among others took to social media to congratulate the Indian weightlifter. However, actor Tisca Chopra’s tweet has attracted maximum attention, for all the wrong reasons.

Immediately after putting out the tweet, Tisca Chopra was criticised online for using the wrong picture of Mirabai Chanu. She has now deleted the post.

Replying to one Twitter user who pointed out her mistake, Tisca wrote, “Sorry – made a mistake.” In response to another, she wrote, “Glad you guys had fun! That was a genuine mistake, am so sorry .. still doesn’t mean I am not proud of @mirabai_chanu at the #TokyoOlympics .. and of the rest of our contingent.”

Tisca is known for films such as Taare Zameen Par, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, Love Breakups Zindagi and Ankur Arora Murder Case. She has also acted in television shows such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Astitva…Ek Prem Kahani and 24.
