The English version of Yash-starrer Toxic has had a disastrous start at the Indian box office. The film, which released its English dubbed version recently, managed to collect only around Rs. 1.40 lakh approx on its opening day.
According to trade reports, the film sold merely around 450 tickets across the country on Day 1. The occupancy was relatively better in metro cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru, which contributed the bulk of the collections. However, the response in North India was extremely poor, with less than 25 tickets sold in major centres like Gurugram and Noida.
Given the outright rejection by the audience and the extremely low numbers, trade analysts expect the showcasing of the English version to be further reduced on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6. If the current trend continues, the lifetime collection of Toxic‘s English version may not even cross the Rs. 10 lakh mark, making it one of the biggest disasters for a Yash film.
Overall Collections See Sharp Drop
The film’s performance across all languages is also witnessing a steep decline. On September 4, the total collection of Toxic across all languages is estimated to be around Rs. 1.50 to 1.60 crore.
Of this, the original Kannada version contributed the highest with around Rs. 75-80 lakhs, followed closely by the Hindi version which collected around Rs. 70-75 lakhs, as per early estimates.
The Hindi version, which had a strong run initially, is now showing signs of fatigue. Its extended first-week collection stands at Rs. 130.09 crores. However, the drop is significant – from Rs. 2.54 crores on Thursday, September 3, the Hindi version fell to just around Rs. 70-75 lakhs on Friday, September 4.
With such a sharp fall on a weekday, it now remains to be seen whether the Hindi version of Toxic will be able to achieve the Rs. 150 crore milestone in its lifetime run.
