Sohum Shah said that if Shah Rukh Khan had not entered the Hindi film industry, the perception would have remained that it is a place accessible only to Mumbaikars.
Shah Rukh Khan played a key role in the journey of Tumbbad actor-producer Sohum Shah, who says the superstar is no less than a “God” for him. Sohum said the way Shah Rukh rose in the industry despite being an outsider inspired many of them to dream big in Bollywood.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sohum said that if Shah Rukh had not entered the Hindi film industry, the perception would have remained that it is a place accessible only to Mumbaikars.
Sohum Shah said, “Agar Shah Rukh Khan saab nhi aate toh aaesa hota ke ye Bombay, industry ke logon ki cheez he hai. Bahar ke aadmi ke liye doorwaze nhi khule hue hai, vo participate nahi kar sakta. (If Shah Rukh Khan hadn’t come, it would have been like the industry is of the people of Bombay. Outsiders are not welcomed and they can’t participate.)”
The actor said the “seed” of wanting to do big things in life was sown when Delhi-born and brought up Shah Rukh Khan made it to Bollywood, inspiring an entire generation that it is possible for them too to do big things.
“Since childhood, a seed grows inside you that I would also go there and do somethings because SRK did it. He also came from Delhi and an outsider made a name and place for himself in the industry, probably we can also try. So, Shah Rukh Khan’s journey has been an inspiration.) He is no less than God to me,” Sohum added.
Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan had also shared the trailer of Tumbbad in 2018. The film has now made history as the highest-grossing re-release film of all time with earnings of over Rs 25 crore.
