Actress Urvashi Rautela has been embroiled in controversy after she commented on the recent knife attack incident on Saif Ali Khan. The actor first apologised on social media but deleted it shortly after, following which he faced backlash from netizens.
The incident came to light when Rautela was asked about the attack on Saif at his Mumbai residence during an interview. Expressing concern for the actor, she also spoke about her personal insecurities about wearing expensive jewellery, mentioning her gifts: a diamond-studded Rolex and a small watch.
“It’s very unfortunate. Now Daku Maharaj has crossed the Rs 105 crore mark at the box office, and my mother has gifted me a diamond-studded Rolex while my father has gifted me a small watch on my finger, but we don’t feel confident to wear it openly. It’s the insecurity that anyone can attack us.
Whatever happened was very unfortunate,” she said. Rautela later apologised on Instagram, writing, “Dear Saif Ali Khan Sir, I hope this message gives you strength. I am writing to express my deep regret and heartfelt apologies. Until now, I was completely unaware of the gravity of the situation you are facing. I am ashamed that I let myself get carried away by the excitement of Daku Maharaj and the gifts I was receiving, instead of acknowledging and understanding what you are going through.”
“Please accept my sincere apology for being so ignorant and insensitive. Now that I know the severity of your case, I am deeply saddened and want to offer my unwavering support. Your decency, dignity, and resilience during such challenging times is truly admirable, and I have so much respect for your strength,” she added.
The actor promised to prioritize compassion and understanding in the future. However, his decision to delete the post soon after only led to further criticism. Social media users called his move a “publicity stunt”. One user commented, “Why apologize if you’re just going to delete it? It seems she’s not even taking her own apology seriously.”
The stabbing incident took place on Thursday morning when an intruder broke into Saif’s home, causing injuries near the actor’s spine and neck. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital and underwent multiple surgeries.
Saif’s team shared a statement and mentioned that he is now out of danger and is recovering. As of Saturday, the Mumbai Police had not yet detained any suspects in connection with the attack.
