Vicky Kaushal’s Mythological Epic ‘Mahavatar’ Postponed to 2027

Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming mythological drama Mahavatar has officially been postponed to 2027. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Maddock Films, was initially scheduled for a Christmas 2026 release but has now been rescheduled due to production delays and overlapping commitments.

The primary reason for the delay is Kaushal’s ongoing involvement in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period romance Love & War, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Filming for Love & War began in late 2024 and is expected to continue through most of 2025. As a result, Mahavatar’s production, originally planned for late 2025, will now begin in April 2026. Given the scale of the project, the revised timeline makes a 2026 release impractical.

Sources close to the production have indicated that Maddock Films is now targeting an Independence Day weekend release in August 2027.

Mahavatar features Vicky Kaushal in the role of Chiranjeevi Parashurama, a revered figure in Indian mythology. The film is being positioned as Maddock Films’ most ambitious venture to date, blending cultural depth with cinematic spectacle. Producer Dinesh Vijan has described the project as a globally resonant narrative rooted in Indian tradition.

The first look of Mahavatar, released last year, generated widespread excitement across social media, with fans praising its visual grandeur and thematic intensity.

While the delay may disappoint audiences, industry analysts believe the extended timeline could enhance the film’s overall quality. Given the genre’s reliance on elaborate visual effects, historical detailing, and physical preparation, the additional time may allow the creative team to deliver a more polished and impactful cinematic experience.

Meanwhile, Kaushal’s Love & War is expected to release in March 2026, ensuring the actor maintains a strong presence on the big screen.

Mahavatar represents Bollywood’s continued investment in mythological storytelling on a grand scale. Though the release has been postponed, the film’s promise of cultural resonance, visual richness, and star power positions it as one of the most awaited titles of 2027. Audiences and industry watchers will be closely tracking its development in the coming months.
