Many Bollywood actresses have opened up and talked about being paid less than their male co-stars. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor and others have spoken out about low pay in the past and now another actress, Vidya Balan has come forward and said the same.
Vidya Balan opened up about pay parity in Bollywood in a recent interview and revealed that she is happy with what she is getting. The Kahaani actress said she doesn’t have much idea about pay parity as she rarely works with ‘big heroes’. She also added that she feels she is compensated fairly in the projects she is doing even though big actors in mainstream films can demand 10 times what she is getting.
Nimrat Kaur and Mrinal Thakur, who were also part of the discussion, spoke on the matter. Nimrat says that this is actually a healthy way of looking at it, and adds that most actors are paid according to the kind of audience they can pull in. Mrinal said that when it comes to salary, it is important to clarify your position on what you expect, before signing a movie.
