Vikrant Massey has clarified his recent social media post, which suggested that he is considering retiring from acting. The actor said he is exhausted and needs a long break to take care of his health.
A day after hinting in a social media post that he is retiring from acting after 2025, Vikrant Massey said people have ‘misinterpreted’ his words. In an interview, Vikrant clarified that he is taking a ‘break’ only because he is ‘exhausted’. He also said that his health has taken a hit, though he did not reveal his illness.
He told News18, “I am not retiring… just exhausted. Need a long break. Missing home and also my health is deteriorating… people misinterpreted it.” The actor’s spokesperson also shared a statement where he said that he is taking a break as his health has “taken a blow.” He shared that he wants to improve his craft as he is feeling “a sense of monotony at the moment.”
He insisted that his post has been “misinterpreted”. His statement read, “Acting is all that I can do. And it has given me everything that I have. My physical and mental health has taken a toll. I just want to take some time off, hone my art. I feel the monotony at the moment. My post has been misinterpreted as that I am quitting acting or retiring from it. I want to take some time off to focus on my family and health. I will be back when the time is right.” In his social media post on Monday, Vikrant had written, “The last few years and the years after have been unprecedented… So, 2025 will be the last time we will meet each other. Until the time is right.”
Many of Vikrant’s colleagues in the film industry wondered why he made such an announcement at the peak of his career. While some sympathised with him, others like his Haseen Dillruba co-star Harshvardhan Rane suspected a PR move. Harshvardhan told Bollywood Bubble, “I am praying that this is some PR activity forced on him by a filmmaker.”
On Monday evening, Vikrant attended a special screening of his film The Sabarmati Report along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, among others. He refused to answer questions about his ‘retirement’. In 2023, Vikrant delivered the biggest solo hit of his career, the acclaimed drama 12th Fail directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. This month, a behind-the-scenes featurette about the making of 12th Fail, titled Restart from Zero, will be released in cinemas. Vikrant played roles on television before starring in films such as ‘A Death in the Gunj’ and ‘Lootera’.
