Vikrant Massey told that before failing in 12th, Anupama Chopra had called him an ‘OTT actor’, asked Vidhu Vinod Chopra ‘Why will people see him in films?’

Vikrant Massey, who was freshly in Shanghai for his film 12th Fail, has alleged that director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s wife, film detractor Anupama Chopra, was of the view that Vikrant is an “OTT actor” and people don’t want to see him in theatres. Can. 12th Fail was one of the most profitable films of 2023 as it was made on a modest budget, reported to be around Rs 20 crore, but went on to gross Rs 70 crore worldwide before its release in China.

Exclamation at a Times of India event in Varanasi, Vikrant said that, “Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s wife Anupama Chopra, who is a famous film detractor, told him that you are making a film after such a long time. No one came to watch your last film Shikara. He is an OTT actor. Why will people come to see him in the theatre?”

At the film’s 100 days event, Chopra said, “When I was making the film, I was told by everyone, including my dearest wife (film critic Anupama Chopra), to bring it to OTT. She said, ‘No one will go to meet Vinod! Yours and Vikrant’s film!’ He told me that I don’t know, I am not associated with films anymore. Anupama supported his words and said, “He is right, I said that I don’t know who will come to the theater to watch this film. So I am saying publicly that I was wrong and you are right.

Vikrant accredited director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, “He did not want to influence the audience. “He didn’t want to go there and buy Medianet. You can get 50 posts done on Instagram or buy a star for a film; we did not want to do all this. Because we believed that this is a film about honesty. We have a story of an honest officer who can motivate others so we cannot deny our belief,” he said and added that he did not promote the film much before its release and admitted that the film was based on word of mouth promotion.

12th Fail was recently screened at the Shanghai Film Festival. Earlier, Vikrant had told India Today that the film will be released on 20,000 screens in China.
