Vir Das Mocks Indian Award Shows, Takes Dig at India’s Got Latent Row

Actor-comedian Vir Das recently took a humorous jab at Indian award shows and the ongoing controversy surrounding the show “India’s Got Latent.” In a post on Instagram, Vir Das expressed his thoughts on why modern stand-up comedians are not invited to host major award shows in India. He humorously speculated that if comedians were to host these events, the jokes they would make could lead to significant backlash, which might be why they are not chosen.

Vir Das also mocked the long list of sponsors that hosts are required to mention at the beginning of Indian award shows. He pointed out that it would be challenging to deliver edgy jokes after listing numerous sponsors, making the whole process seem impractical.

Regarding the “India’s Got Latent” controversy, Vir Das criticized the media’s approach to the situation. He suggested that the backlash against new media, particularly YouTube influencers, was more about protecting traditional media interests than addressing the actual content or issue at hand.
