Union minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that the consistent efforts of the centre have started bearing fruit and that Northeast region will witness visible changes in the healthcare delivery system.
The union minister, who was on a two-day visit in Manipur, said this while addressing a function held at the Jubilee Hall of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
He inaugurated a new MRI block with 3-Tesla MRI machine, new PG ladies hostel -100 capacity (G-3), new block Neuro block and College of Nursing (new block) among others.
Among others, MP (Lok Sabha) RK Ranjan Singh and MP (Rajya Sabha) Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba and director prof A Santa Singh of RIMS attended the occasion.
Addressing the function, Dr. Vardhan lauded the RIMS authority for timely completion of the infrastructures despite hardships faced while procuring equipment, particularly the imported Tesla MRI machine amidst the COVID-19 lockdown.
“The timely completion of the projects showed the level of commitment of the RIMS authority in their efforts to provide best healthcare service to the people of the region,” he said.
The union minister further assured all possible assistance from his ministry to develop the RIMS as one of the best healthcare centres not only in the Northeast region but also in the country.
He asserted that his ministry was giving priority in the development of the healthcare sector in the region as the centre under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was committed for all round development of the region.
“Many goods in the healthcare sector will be seen in the coming years,” he said.
He said that the Centre had already decided to create 75 new medical colleges in remote districts of different states of the country.
The setting of Churachandpur Medical College in Manipur and Mon Medical College in Nagaland which he had laid the foundation stone on Saturday were part of the Central government’s initiative toward improved healthcare delivery system, he claimed.
Earlier, addressing the occasion as guest of honour, MP, RK Ranjaan drew the attention of the union minister in introducing nuclear medicine in the RIMS.
It will not only ease the inconveniences being faced by the people of the state and other Northeast states in treatment of cancer but would be able to save a huge amount of money being spent by them, he added.
Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, reminded his recent proposal to the minister regarding development of RIMS at the level of AIIMS.
The union health minister, who arrived in Imphal on Saturday evening from Kohima, left for New Delhi on Sunday evening.
