In an interview, actor Vikrant Massey revealed that he turned down a lot of money to quit TV and move into films.
Vikrant Massey has shocked fans by announcing his retirement from acting at the age of 37 on social media today. The actor, who made his Bollywood debut with Vikramaditya Motwane’s film Lootera, told about his career and relationship with money in an interview earlier this year. In a video on Unfiltered By Samdish, Vikrant revealed that he quit TV to enter the film industry even though he was getting Rs 35 lakh per month.
The actor start by narrating the story of how he was treated when his friends saw where he lived. He said, “I once called some of my closest friends in college home. My mother cooks really well, so I invited everyone home for dinner. But when they saw my house, plastic chairs, chipped paint, leaking roof, lack of cleanliness in the kitchen, their behaviour changed… They left within an hour of coming to my house. Later I saw chats of them badmouthing my house.”
Vikrant said that this made him think that earning money was the only way to get respect, but later he realised that it did not give him peace. “I earned a lot of money while working in TV. I bought my first house at the age of 24, I was earning 35 lakhs per month. It was a huge amount for a family like mine, where we had to struggle to make ends meet. Even after buying a house, paying off loans, giving my parents a better life, I could not sleep peacefully. I quit my job at that time, because I felt good work was more important. All my savings were gone and Sheetal (his wife) would lend me money to attend auditions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Vikrant Massey announced his retirement from acting at the peak of his professional life, leaving everyone shocked. After receiving praise for his performances in 12th Fail and Sector 36, he was last seen in The Sabarmati Report, based on the 2002 Godhra train fire incident in Gujarat, which is still running in theatres. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film also stars Raashi Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in pivotal roles. According to Sacnilk, the film has grossed ₹28.25 crore at the domestic box office in its 17-day run.
