With their latest collaboration Baari Baari, singer Armaan Malik and composer Amaal Mallik continue to captivate fans with the undeniable chemistry that only siblings can share. In an exclusive conversation with Filmfare, Armaan opened up about the deeply affectionate—and occasionally chaotic—bond he shares with his elder brother.
In an earlier interview, Amaal had charmingly described Armaan as “a baby” to him personally but admitted to being a tough taskmaster in the studio, often pushing his younger brother beyond limits to unearth his full potential. Responding with a smile, Armaan agreed, “He couldn’t have explained our relationship better. He’s incredibly protective—sometimes overprotective—but in the studio, he basically makes me feel like crap,” he chuckled. “But that’s what siblings do.”
Armaan went on to describe how these intense musical exchanges often lead to his best takes. “He’ll criticise my vocals 10 times just to get the perfect one. And when I’m mad enough to prove him wrong, I deliver the best version. He knows my potential better than I do. That’s the relationship—we argue, we laugh, and in the end, he spoils me. Amaal is the bestest elder brother anyone could wish for. The love we share is truly one of a kind.”
Their bond remains unshaken, even as Amaal recently spoke about his struggles with clinical depression and a period of distancing from family. Amidst it all, the emotional connection between the two brothers has only grown stronger.
Armaan also revealed how Amaal continues to be a guiding force in his life and music. “I turn to him for advice all the time. He’s five years older and has seen more of life, so I value his perspective. Even if I don’t always take the same route, his guidance shapes the way I think. When I compose my own songs, I always run them by him—his feedback is precious.”
