Birthday Special: Arjun Kapoor Reflects on Career Setbacks and Personal Growth

As Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor celebrates his 40th birthday, he opens up about the turbulent phases of his 13-year career, offering a candid reflection on navigating professional setbacks and personal scrutiny.

In an earlier interview with Filmfare, Kapoor described himself as a “very practical person,” acknowledging that he was never deluded about the reasons behind his films underperforming. “I wasn’t deluded about what my shortcomings were. That aspect of mine allowed me to deal with failure,” he said.

Kapoor, who made his debut with Ishaqzaade in 2012, has experienced both critical acclaim and box office disappointments. He admitted that the most challenging period in his career was compounded by simultaneous criticism of his physical appearance, work ethic, and personal life. “It hurt me a little more because during that time my physicality came into question, my attitude towards work and my acting came into question along with my script selection,” he noted.

The actor also spoke about the emotional toll of public scrutiny. “When your films aren’t working and you are not looking great and your personal life and work ethics are being questioned… that’s a lot,” he said. Kapoor’s relationship with Malaika Arora, which ended last year, was frequently in the spotlight, adding to the pressure.

Despite the setbacks, Kapoor emphasized resilience and self-belief as key to moving forward. “The best way to deal with failure is to put your head down, accept it, understand it and work. You have to have confidence in yourself and believe what you are doing is right,” he asserted.

Kapoor’s recent performances, including his role as the antagonist Danger Lanka in Singham Again (2024), have been noted for their intensity. As he steps into a new decade, the actor is reportedly exploring opportunities behind the camera, with aspirations to direct and produce in the future.

Marking his milestone birthday, Kapoor also debuted a new tattoo that reads “Smile,” symbolizing a shift from his self-described “grumpy” persona to a more optimistic outlook. “Haso, jiyo, muskurao, kya pata kal ho naa ho,” he shared in a video message to fans.

With renewed focus and a grounded perspective, Arjun Kapoor appears poised to script a new chapter in his cinematic journey.
