President Droupadi Murmu was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies during her visit to Romania, recognizing her contributions to public life, education, and India-Romania relations. In her acceptance speech, she emphasized the transformative power of education in fostering equality and inclusivity, attributing her own rise to education and highlighting its role in building a better society. Murmu emphasized the need for universities to align technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence, with ethical values and human compassion.
She also remarked on the historical ties between India and Romania and advocated for enhanced collaboration in higher education through research partnerships, faculty collaborations, and student exchanges.India has expanded ITEC training slots for Romanian professionals in artificial intelligence. Professor Gheorghe Hurduzeu commended this initiative for highlighting exemplary leadership and education’s transformative role. During her visit, President Murmu toured Bucharest’s Village Museum and planted a sapling as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
