From Texas to Mexico City: BTS Continues Record-Breaking ‘Arirang World Tour’

The heart of Mexico City was transformed into a sea of purple on Thursday morning (IST) as nearly 50,000 ecstatic fans gathered outside the National Palace to greet the global K-pop sensation, BTS. Ahead of their highly anticipated “Arirang World Tour” concert at the Estadio GNP Seguros, the group took a moment to acknowledge their massive Latin American following in a historic public appearance.

In a rare fusion of pop culture and state diplomacy, all seven members—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—appeared on the palace balcony alongside Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The President, who had earlier this year requested South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s assistance in bringing more K-pop events to Mexico, posed for photographs with the band in the palace corridors while proudly holding a copy of their latest album, Arirang.

The atmosphere outside the palace was electric, with “ARMY” members (the group’s dedicated fanbase) camping out for hours to catch a glimpse of their idols. The band’s visit to the National Palace underscores the growing cultural bridge between South Korea and Mexico, driven by the global “Hallyu” (Korean Wave) phenomenon. President Sheinbaum’s administration has actively sought to position Mexico City as a premier global hub for international entertainment, and the presence of BTS serves as a crowning achievement for these efforts.

On the professional front, BTS is currently in the middle of a rigorous global schedule. The group recently wrapped up a high-energy performance at the El Paso Sun Bowl Stadium in Texas on May 3. Their stop in Mexico City is one of the most significant legs of the tour, with three sold-out shows scheduled for May 7, 9, and 10. Local authorities have increased security and transportation measures to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of fans expected to descend on the stadium over the next few days.

Following their stint in Mexico, the “Arirang World Tour” is set to head across the Atlantic for its European leg. Starting in late June, the group will perform in major cities including Madrid, Brussels, London, Munich, and Paris, continuing through mid-July. As BTS continues to shatter attendance records and bridge cultural divides, their historic morning at Mexico’s National Palace will be remembered as a defining moment of their 2026 world tour.
