Govinda Announces Grand Comeback With ‘Roopa’, Says It’s A New Beginning For Young Dreamers

After staying away from the big screen for several years, veteran Bollywood star Govinda is making a comeback with a fresh project titled ‘Roopa’.

The 90s dancing sensation hosted a press conference on Monday to formally announce his return to films. At the event, he launched the first poster of the movie, introduced debutante actress Rani Swarankar as the female lead, and also revealed that he is backing the film as a producer.

Once one of Hindi cinema’s most bankable stars, Govinda dominated the 90s with back-to-back hits. However, after a series of films failed to connect with audiences, he gradually stepped back from acting.

Speaking at the announcement, a visibly upbeat Govinda said he is ready to start a new chapter. Reflecting on the ups and downs of his career, he said, “Perhaps it was written that I would be counted out so many times. People kept saying ‘Govinda won’t be seen in films anymore.’ But I have always found my way back. I pray to God that ‘Roopa’ turns out to be something beyond expectations and touches people’s hearts.”

The actor shared that the film is aimed at the younger generation. “This story is especially for the youth. I want that when they watch ‘Roopa’ in theatres, it motivates them to dream big and believe that those dreams can come true. I don’t want to talk much about spirituality, but I just hope the film inspires,” he added.

“Number 14 Has Always Been Lucky For Me”
Govinda also opened up about his deep faith in numerology during the interaction. He said the number 14 has played a defining role in his life.

“I started believing in numerology when I was 14. By God’s grace, I signed 14 films in just one week, and that kicked off 14 years of superstardom for me. I was also elected to the 14th Lok Sabha. After that came a 14-year phase of struggle before I decided to return to cinema. This time I didn’t want to wait five more years. I decided to begin again. I hope ‘Roopa’ marks the start of a new journey,” he said.

With ‘Roopa’, Govinda is not only returning as an actor but also stepping in as a producer. The film will also launch new face Rani Swarankar opposite him.

Calling it a story of hope and ambition, Govinda said he wants to reconnect with audiences and give them a film that stays with them.

‘Roopa’ is being positioned as the beginning of Govinda’s second innings in Bollywood — one that he hopes will bring back the magic of his earlier days.
