Jean Smart extended her remarkable Emmy streak, winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the fifth straight year for “Hacks.” The victory marked Smart’s eighth Emmy overall, putting her alongside Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the record books, while Allison Janney also joined the group with her latest win. Smart also became the first woman to win the lead actress award for every season of a single show. “Widow’s Bay” emerged as the leading comedy winner, taking Outstanding Comedy Series along with three acting awards. Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, while Kate O’Flynn received Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Stephen Root won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Actor and activist Michael J. Fox was honoured with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his contributions beyond the entertainment industry. Actress Mariska Hargitay hosted the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The main ceremony followed the presentation of dozens of awards the previous weekend, including two wins for Hargitay, bringing together another year of television’s leading performers and productions on the Emmy stage.
