President Droupadi Murmu attended a special screening of Aamir Khan’s latest film Sitaare Zameen Par at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 24, 2025. The event marked a significant cultural moment, blending cinema with national discourse on inclusion and empathy.
The film, considered a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, tells the story of a hot-headed basketball coach who is assigned to train a team of neurodivergent athletes as part of his community service. The cast includes Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, and ten specially-abled newcomers, making it a landmark in inclusive casting.
President Murmu, a vocal advocate for disability rights, praised the film’s message and its portrayal of resilience and teamwork. The screening was organized in collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat, and several government dignitaries, including the Vice President and officials from the Sports Ministry, were in attendance.
The film, directed by RS Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, has already crossed ₹100 crore globally within four days of release. It’s also an official remake of the Spanish film Campeones.
