Rekha Opens Up on Motherhood: “I Never Miss Having Babies”

Veteran actor Rekha, known for her enigmatic aura and private nature, recently shared rare insights into her personal life during a candid conversation with Rediff. She spoke about her brief marriage, her thoughts on motherhood, and her views on relationships with remarkable honesty.

Although Rekha has been romantically linked with several influential figures in the film industry, her only confirmed marriage was with Delhi-based industrialist Mukesh Aggarwal in 1990. Tragically, the union was short-lived, as Aggarwal passed away within a year of their wedding. Since then, Rekha has chosen a life of independence, away from conventional domestic commitments.

In the interview, when asked whether she missed having children, she responded, “Not anymore. Even if I find the ultimate man to have babies with, it would be unfair to my priorities. If I had a child, I wouldn’t be able to focus on anything else.”

Rekha emphasized that motherhood demands an unwavering commitment—one she believes might conflict with her larger purpose. “Then what happens to the babies all over the world with whom I am connected?” she asked. “If you have the power to be Rekha, then you better be prepared to reach out to anyone who wants to reach out to you.”

Rekha also reflected on the idea of having a partner in her life. “If I had a man, I would devote all my attention to that one person. I am an extremely uni-focus person,” she admitted. “I would personally take care of everything—his clothes, his meals, even packing his lunch box and delivering it to him.”

She further elaborated on why she has chosen not to settle into a traditional family life. “I don’t think I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I cannot deprive my admirers and fans for the narrow world of a family.”

However, Rekha left room for possibilities, adding, “Maybe I am being unrealistic, but I am not in denial. If I find someone willing to share me with my fans, I might change my mind.”
