Resolution of Distributor-Exhibitor Stalemate Triggers Manic Box Office Surge for Ramayana

Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated cinematic magnum opus Ramayana has officially entered its home stretch of advance bookings, crossing the historic ₹100-crore mark in worldwide pre-sales fully two days before its grand global theatrical release. By the morning of November 3, 2026, the epic mythological feature had grossed an extraordinary ₹105 crore globally, placing it among an elite pantheon of blockbuster Indian titles including Baahubali 2, RRR, Pushpa 2, and Dhurandhar 2. Advance bookings initially opened on Dussehra, 15 days ahead of release, but experienced a temporary plateau during the first ten days as screen allocations remained confined primarily to Hindi language venues while domestic distributor Dharma Productions negotiated higher revenue-sharing terms with single-screen exhibitors. Following the successful resolution of negotiations last Friday, screen availability expanded rapidly over the weekend to surpass 5,000 screens worldwide, with over 1,500 screens added within a single 24-hour window alone. Domestically, the film amassed ₹58 crore in gross pre-sales across India, selling nearly 15 lakh tickets led by strong momentum for opening day alongside significant ticket demand spanning Friday and Saturday. Premium viewing formats—most notably IMAX—have emerged as major financial drivers, accounting for nearly 25 per cent of total domestic ticket sales despite representing just 4 per cent of total available screen count. Simultaneously, robust international pre-sales momentum has accelerated overall collections, spearheaded by North American markets where the film registered paid preview earnings exceeding $1.5 million for November 4, contributing to an overall overseas advance booking tally of $5 million. Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in partnership with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana represents the first installment of a planned two-part cinematic venture, with Part 2 slated for release on Diwali 2027. The high-profile ensemble cast features Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. With global distribution outside India managed by Sony Pictures alongside a multi-language release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, Ramayana is positioned to challenge all-time opening day box office records across major international theatrical markets.
