Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has strongly refuted allegations labeling him the “brand ambassador of love jihad,” asserting that religion has never played a role in the marriages within his family.
His remarks follow online political and religious debates sparked by his recent marriage to longtime partner Gauri Spratt in an intimate registered ceremony on July 5. The union drew sharp criticism from certain quarters, even prompting religious decrees.
Speaking to journalist Subhash K Jha, Khan expressed amusement at the controversy, stating, “Life is getting more comical as time passes.” He emphasized that interfaith marriages have a long, respected history within his family, and religious conversion has never been a condition for any relationship.
The actor clarified that all of his marriages—including his past relationships with Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, as well as his current marriage to Gauri Spratt—have been civil unions under the law. None of his partners ever changed their religion to marry him.
By highlighting his family’s history of secular, registered marriages, Khan aimed to dispel the politically motivated narratives surrounding his personal life. He remains firm that mutual respect, rather than religious assimilation, has always been the foundation of his domestic partnerships.
