Producers Guild Warns of Severe Financial Losses as Talent Abandons Projects at the Eleventh Hour

The Producers Guild of India expressed deep concern on Wednesday regarding an increasing trend of talent abruptly abandoning projects right before filming begins. While the Guild’s official statement refrained from pointing fingers at specific individuals, it confirmed receiving formal complaints from premier banners Excel Entertainment and Panorama Studios. The statement follows closely on the heels of major casting disruptions surrounding the highly anticipated blockbusters Don 3 and Drishyam 3.

Ranveer Singh’s sudden departure from the Farhan Akhtar-helmed Don 3 in December 2025 initially prompted a severe non-cooperation ban from FWICE last month, which has only just been revoked. Concurrently, veteran actor Akshaye Khanna also reportedly pulled out of Panorama Studios’ upcoming Drishyam 3, starring Ajay Devgn. According to the producers’ body, these last-minute exits trigger an adverse domino effect.

The apex body highlighted that these late-stage cancellations result in “substantial financial losses” for producers and jeopardize the brand value and overall credibility of the films. More critically, the Guild noted that such unprofessional behavior directly disrupts the livelihoods of hundreds of daily-wage technicians and crew members who depend entirely on these production schedules. Moving forward, the Guild is urging the film fraternity to honor its commitments to protect the economic stability of the entire industry ecosystem.
