Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious historical drama, Raja Shivaji, has achieved a major milestone at the box office, officially crossing the ₹50-crore gross mark within its first week of release. The film, which features Deshmukh in the titular role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, continues to show remarkable resilience, maintaining a steady hold over the working week.
According to data from the industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected ₹4.9 crore nett on its fifth day. This brings its total domestic nett collection to ₹44.40 crore, while the overall domestic gross has reached an impressive ₹52.68 crore. Notably, the Marathi version remains the primary driver of this success. On Tuesday, the Marathi shows recorded a 33% occupancy rate, contributing ₹3.35 crore nett. In comparison, the Hindi version saw a lower occupancy of 14%, despite having a significantly higher screen count.
With a gross collection of over ₹50 crore, Raja Shivaji has already secured its position as the fourth-highest-grossing Marathi film of all time in India. The production is now eyeing the third spot, currently held by Deshmukh’s own 2022 blockbuster Ved, which earned ₹61.2 crore. To reach the pinnacle of Marathi cinema history, it will eventually need to challenge the records set by Baipan Bhari Deva (₹76.28 crore) and the all-time leader Sairat (₹90 crore).
Released on May 1, the film boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Sanjay Dutt as Afzal Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and Genelia D’Souza. Produced by Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios, the movie’s success underscores the growing appetite for high-quality regional historical epics. With strong word-of-mouth and a dedicated audience base, Raja Shivaji appears well-positioned to break further records in the coming days.
