Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji has cast actors Koushani Mukherjee and Kalpan Mitra for special cameo appearances as the iconic literary characters Chandramukhi and Devdas in his upcoming Durga Puja period drama, Emperor Vs Sarat Chandra. Set for a theatrical release on October 15, the Nandy Movies production stars Tota Roy Chowdhury as legendary author Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Abir Chatterjee as Sabyasachi from Pather Dabi, and Mimi Chakraborty, while exploring the political firestorm surrounding the 1926 colonial ban on Chattopadhyay’s revolutionary novel. Mukherji, who also makes his debut as a music composer with this film, selected Kalpan Mitra for his classical look after previous successful collaborations on Feluda Pherot, Feludar Goyendagiri, and Padatik, while reuniting with Koushani Mukherjee following Killbill Society. Facing a crowded festive box office alongside Bengali titles like Bohurupi: The Golden Daku, DeSu7, and The Eken: Kerala e Kurukshetra, as well as major non-Bengali releases including Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, Emperor Vs Sarat Chandra promises to be a major highlight of this year’s Durga Puja cinema lineup.
